Project HyKero
HyKero is XFuels GmbH’s lighthouse project for a 50,000 tons per year (tpa) PtX plant for the commercial production of green PtL-kerosene, generally named as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), green naphtha and green hydrogen.
HyKero plant facts
- Only green feedstocks are used – green electrical energy, water, green methane and carbon dioxide.
- Fully integrated plant design for the production of 50,000 tpa PtL-SAF and 14,000 tpa green naphtha.
- About 1,000 tpa of green hydrogen is available as green transport fuel and for industrial consumers.
- Complete reutilization of by-products within the plant ensures zero CO2 emissions from production.
- Green PtX products safe over 350,000 tpa of CO2 emissions compared to crude oil based products.
With HyKero we are the first producer of PtL-SAF on industrial scale. Start of operation is planned for end 2027.
The HyKero project will be realized by XFuels HyKero GmbH a joint company of XFuels GmbH and partners from industry and financing.
Industrial park Böhlen-Lippendorf
The HyKero plant will be installed at the DOW’s industrial park Böhlen-Lippendorf located in Saxony south of Leipzig.
The existing park infrastructure allows an excellent HyKero plant integration leading to an optimized and cost efficient HyKero plant design and operation.
The available road and rail transport infrastructure allows the transport of PtL-SAF to the airport Leipzig-Halle while the green naphtha is used at the industrial park as steam cracker feed. The excess green hydrogen is fed to the existing hydrogen pipeline grid for the use by other consumers in the region. With the excess green steam the existing regional district heating system could become more sustainable.
Additional green electricity will become available in the region from new wind and solar parks with a planned total capacity of over 1.5 GW. An excellent opportunity for the HyKero plant to materialize further synergies.
